Senior Project Manager (Engineering)

JOB DESCRIPTION

SENIOR PROJECT MANAGER

 

REPORTS TO: Michael T. Wiley, PE, PS, Prof. LS, President

 

OBJECTIVES: To provide project management and technical design support for various Wormald Companies’ and Piedmont Design Group, LLC’s projects, including residential and commercial site design and permitting, quantity takeoffs, dimension coordination, design research projects, site grading, QA/QC and plan review, preparing contract RFP’s, bid packages, RFI’s, and any other tasks required by the design and construction projects.

 

QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum 15-years’ experience in all aspects of land development project management, design, and demonstrable proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D for plan production, preferably for residential projects but minimum 5-years’ experience and commercial and/or office project experience considered. Must be an initiator of project tasks, needs, and follow-through, and be responsible for completion of project tasks with minimal supervision. Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, land surveying or associates technical engineering, landscape architecture, or land surveying degree required. Licensure as an engineer, landscape architect or land surveyor required.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Management

 

  1. Provide frequent coordination with President, clients, and support to staff. Make telephone and email contacts with various project team members and outside agencies, sub-consultants, etc. as directed by the VP for miscellaneous project needs (e.g. – status, request for documents, meeting coordination, etc.).
  2. Interface with and be the project representative first point of contact and the trusted advisor to clients and contacts with public agencies.
  3. Prepare for and provide public testimony and hearing presentations.
  4. Prepare project proposals and budgets.
  5. Prepare weekly task lists for support staff.
  6. Review staff timesheets bi-weekly and edit as needed.
  7. Review cost detail reports and coordinate preparation of monthly draft invoices with accounting.
  8. Prepare and track project Gantt/critical path schedules.
  9. Support accounting as needed with project details backup for collections.
  10. Preparation of draft documents in Microsoft Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint:
    1. Letters;
    2. Project Memoranda;
    3. Project Teleconference notes;
    4. Project Meeting Minutes;
    5. Action Plan/meeting minutes;
    6. Project task/workload projections;
    7. Project Schedule updates;
    8. Easement and deed descriptions;
    9. Engineering and surveying certifications;
    10. Engineering technical reports, justification statements, testimony, etc.;
    11. Assistance with preparing PowerPoint presentations.
  1. Preparation of plan and permit review/approval applications/forms.
  2. Preparation of Requests for Proposals for Bidding on Projects to Sub-consultants, RFI’s, bid tabulations and bid evaluations, review of shop drawings.
  3. Preparation of miscellaneous engineering spreadsheets.
  4. Assist President with updating policies manual for standard office correspondence forms, technical spreadsheets, technical design guidelines and standards, workflow procedures, work products, etc.

 

Production

 

Supervise, direct, conduct quality assurance/quality control reviews, and as needed participate in:

 

  1. Research courthouse records, land records, municipality permitting records, etc.
  2. Research and compile data for various projects.
  3. Assist with coordination of supporting outside sub consultants.
  4. Assist with coordination of work of cable TV and telephone companies.
  5. Preparation of Civil Engineering plans using traditional design tools, AutoCAD Civil 3D, EaglePoint Pinnacle Series, Autodesk Storm and Sanitary Analysis (SSA), AutoTurn 3D, ParkCAD, HEC-RAS, Hydraflow Express Hydrographs and Storm Sewers, TR-55, TR-20, WaterCAD, etc. Design skills set/tasks will include:
    1. layout of roads, lots, buildings, etc.;
    2. establish street cross-sections and profiles;
    3. rough, hold down, and final grading, raw and adjusted earthwork volume calculations;
    4. erosion & sediment control design, drainage area maps and calculations (hydrology and hydraulics), and details;
    5. storm drainage layout, drainage area maps and calculations (hydrology and hydraulics), details and profiles;
    6. stormwater management design, drainage area maps and calculations (hydrology and hydraulics), details and profiles;
    7. water system layout, design flow estimates and flow network hydraulic calculations;
    8. sewer system layout, design flow estimates and flow network hydraulic calculations.
  6. Preparation of quantity takeoffs.
  7. Preparation of cost estimates.
  8. Preparation of, processing and tracking of plan submissions and agency permits.
  9. Responding to agency comments including revisions to plans and calculations.
  10. Prepare revisions to existing drawings.
  11. Specification Development.
  12. Bidding Support.
  13. Review/Processing of Shop Drawings.
  14. Provide miscellaneous assistance on selected office projects as they arise.
  15. Provide all other duties deemed appropriate as directed by the President.
