Behind The Walls
27 Reasons Why Wormald Builds A Better Home
1Sprinkler Systems (Basement Only)
Automatic fire sprinkler systems provide peace of mind, lower insurance rates, and protect the home investment.
2Tamko® Roofing Shingles
We use roofing shingles with a 30‑year limited warranty and a 10‑year “Full Start Warranty” installed over a roofing underlayment. Full Start refers to the critical period of time in which the costs of both the shingles and the labor to install them are covered at 100%.
3Engineered Roof and Floor Trusses
Many of our architectural designs incorporate the open floor plan concept. Utilizing engineered components enables our architects to freely design the modern floor plans our buyers are looking for. Engineered wood products deliver structural integrity, predictability and guaranteed performance. Notice the tapered floor trusses on the sky terrace deck providing a built in, deliberate drainage plane to shed water from the terrace.
4Tyvek® Housewrap
We use Tyvek® certified installers trained by the manufacturer Dupont, with a 10-year weatherization system warranty. Third-party Dupont inspectors inspect the homes for proper installation, flashing around all penetrations, windows and doors.
5Smart Home Communication Center
Included in all our homes. Provides total connectivity throughout the house which includes “future proof” high-speed 10-gig rated data wiring. This allows us to custom automate the optional whole-house audio, cameras, and home theater systems for our clients.
6Computerized Selection Sheets
Our sales, selections, scheduling, purchasing, and warranty are fully integrated with our computerized workflow management software solution. Fully computerized and synchronized systems reduce mistakes from contract to settlement and throughout the duration of the home construction.
7Window Installation
Our windows are installed by AAMA (American Architectural Manufactures Association) certified installers using a 7-step process. Note the butyl flashing, sill flashing, and proper overlap of the house wrap.
8Windows
Double-pane windows with low-E glass and argon filled gas between the panes of glass. Unlike traditional glass, low-E windows are made with a special coating which reflects radiant infrared energy. Argon gas is a superior insulator against air.
9Expanding Spray Foam Insulation
Expanding spray foam sealant is used for sealing penetrations on the exterior of the home to prevent air movement through the walls.
10Oversized Showers
These days our clients are asking for larger showers. Most of our primary bathrooms include oversized showers and tiled shower seats at just the right height and slope to shed water.
11Flowguard Gold® Water Pipes
CPVC water piping has superior performance to copper piping. Flowguard Gold® does not leach and contaminate the water. It has optimal corrosion resistance, virtually eliminates condensation problems, is four times quieter than copper (you will never hear water hammer noise), and it’s resistant to biofilm—a thin, slimy layer that forms when bacteria adheres to surfaces.
12Duct Mastic Sealed Ductwork
All of our hard metal ductwork joints are sealed with mastic. This prevents conditioned air from escaping in the wall cavities or unconditioned spaces.
13Air Sealing
Each of our new homes undergoes a stringent series of tests and inspections including a blower door test. These tests insure that each house is tightly sealed to prevent unwanted air infiltration.
14Kitchen Island Knee Wall Construction
Our knee walls are braced through the floor system for exceptional strength of our kitchen islands.
15Cabinet Blocking
We provide full-thickness blocking for all of our kitchen cabinets ensuring solid connections of the kitchen cabinetry to the wall to protect the cabinets and the dishes inside.
16Metal Plates to Prevent Nail Puncture
All of our electrical wires and plumbing pipes are protected from being accidentally punctured by nails and other fasteners.
17Frame Check Orange Paint
Our construction managers thoroughly inspect every home for framing details and mark items for correction before they are covered up.
18Kiln Dried Lumber
We only use kiln dried lumber in all of our houses. Lumber is kiln dried to a minimum of 19% moisture content. Look for the stamp “KD‑HT” which means kiln dried and heat treated.
1916" On Center 2x6 Framing with R-19 Insulation
16″ stud spacing on exterior walls is structurally superior to the 24″ spacing used by many builders in the past. 16″ stud spacing ensures straighter walls and higher quality.
20“Ultimate” Stair System
When hardwood stairs are selected we use this proprietary system. During the construction process, stairs are delivered to the job site without the finished treads and riser. The finished treads and risers are fabricated, custom stained and finished in a climate controlled factory offsite and installed at the end producing a beautiful staircase.
21Radon Vent
We provide a passive radon venting system rough in. In the event radon is found to be present in the home a mitigation fan can be installed in the attic to remove the threat of radon entering the home.
2290+ Furnaces
High-efficiency furnaces have lower energy bills. These furnaces use PVC flues utilizing outside combustion air and quiet-sealed combustion chambers.
23Therma-Tru® Door Systems
Therma-Tru® Smooth-Star entry doors feature clean lines with a smooth, paintable surface. More durable than a steel door, it won’t rust or dent. Therma-Tru® is the only manufacturer that has the entire door assembly jambs and threshold under warranty. All of our exterior doors are installed with an adjustable threshold and sill pan to guard against damaging leaks.
24Pest Control
We protect your home from termites with the Sentricon® System.
25Inspections
Our homes undergo a rigorous inspection process by multiple inspectors from many different jurisdictions, assuring code compliance and quality. These inspections are performed by our construction managers, county and state officials, and private inspection companies. Our homes have footing, backfill, building (rough and final), electrical (rough and final), plumbing (groundworks, rough and final), HVAC, fire marshal, health department, energy, bank, and municipal site inspections.
26Safety First
Construction sites are dangerous. All Wormald employees are provided with safety training. We employ a third-party inspection company that performs planned and random pop inspections and on-site training. We have written reports of each inspection. All of our sites have an outstanding safety record!
27Design Studio
Choose from a vast selection of options and finishes to personalize your home to your taste. We do not have predetermined color blocks to limit you.
